Our Mission
We work hand in hand with our community providing restorative practices and transformative solutions to address conflict and cycles of harm in order to heal and build relationships for a stronger, safer and more just southwest Colorado.

We are dedicated to adopting a decolonial framework to how we organize as a coalition and serve our community to advance restorative practices. This includes how we work towards a just society where conditions of harm are transformed into opportunities for healing and growth.

We believe in addressing conflict and harm through restorative approaches that heal & build relationships, promote accountability, and foster long-term community well-being.
Community Accountability & Empowerment
We value the power of education, advocacy, and collaboration to build capacity and equip our community with the skills to rectify past / present harms, resolve concflicts, break cycles of violence, and transform systemic injustice.

We center the inherent dignity and humanity of every individual in our work, believing that justice must honor and uplift each person.
Equity and Inclusion
We are committed to ensuring justice that is inclusive of all, prioritizing equitable access to essential care and basic needs, particularly for forcibly marginalized communities who are disproportionately impacted by our criminal legal system.
Who We Are
SCJC was founded in 2024 as a community justice organization to provide restorative justice practices and transformative solutions to how we address root causes of conflict, harm and violence across the region. We are funded at the local, state and national levels through entities such as the CO Division of Criminal Justice and the Vera Institute promoting decarceration and more equitable criminal justice and accountability practices.
We are establishing a robust and sustainable referral process from system partners like the DA’s office, DPD, FLC PD and municipal court in order to redirect cases out of the criminal system and prevent punitive outcomes. We also work directly with community partners to promote restorative practices, policies and processes for addressing conflict and harm. Together, we seek to reduce punitive outcomes for marginalized identities disproportionately impacted by the criminal legal system, while empowering our community with the skills and capacity to facilitate healing, accountability and repair.
We seek to build a Coalition representative of and, therefore, more responsive to the communities we serve. We host and facilitate monthly community building events, practitioner trainings and workshops to support a more just, equitable, and safe southwest Colorado.

OUR SERVICES
What We Offer
As a new community justice coalition we are working to provide the following restorative programs & interventions:
Restorative Justice Diversion:
We receive direct referrals from our systems partners such as the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office; Fort Lewis College Police Department; and the Durango Police Department, to offer pre-file / post-file diversion restorative justice for young adults and adults who come in contact with the criminal legal system. This includes Community Group Conferencing and Restorative Dialogue facilitations between impacted parties to promote accountability and healing.
Direct Community Restorative Referrals:
We work in partnership with community based organizations to further support forcibly marginalized communities facing systemic harm and oppression, to help mitigate the risk of becoming justice involved.
Community Capacity & Restorative Skill-Building:
We work proactively as movement organizers to offer trainings that uplift the very real and important skills our community holds along with adopting the restorative practices that help us (1) best identify and address the real issues we face as a regional community; and (2) support building the skills & capacity to facilitate conflict & harm that relates to these issues.
We aim to move away from systems-centered paradigms of safety and justice reliant on ineffective punitive measures and instead toward community-centered approaches that focus on accountability, equity, relationships, and healing.

Monthly Meeting Organizing Statement
We believe justice represents the community it serves and begins in relationship and how we show up for one another. Together, we practice ways of being that move beyond punishment, policing, and surveillance toward collective care, accountability, and transformation. We invite all who gather with us to acknowledge that in order to have a just and equitable society for our collective benefit, we must bring openness and humility, listen deeply to learn and grow from one another, and to take shared responsibility for shaping a community where everyone belongs. Guided by our principles, we strive to build the conditions for safety, trust, and justice that honor the dignity and humanity of all people.
